Using Your Surround Sound Setup for Your Home Theater Package

One of the most important things about a great home theater package is the surround sound setup that will be used. With more movies than ever before using sound to their advantage it helps to have great surround sound for when you watch your movies at home. It can really make the movie watching experience even greater.

The first thing to use for the surround sound setup is the sound format that will be used. Digital Theater Systems and Dolby Laboratories are the main groups that work for surround sound generation. Having DTS or Dolby Digital setups can be used, and many of the best setups can use both of these formats. However, if you cannot use any of these you will need to use the right option for your movies.

DVDs contain mostly Dolby Digital sound options. Some of them will have options for DTS. However, both of these sounds are different. DTS audio will be very clear and sharp and is used with less compression than that of Dolby Digital sounds. However, DTS is not used on television broadcasts or on DVD integrated sound enhancements.

The sounds that you will be hearing will be different according to the number of speakers that you have for your stereo. 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1 systems are the most common for both Dolby and DTS systems. The .1 refers to the subwoofer channel that is used for creating bass sounds and sounds with lower frequencies. Depending on the system you use you will have different amounts of speakers.

For a 5.1 system you will be using left, center and right front speakers with two left and right surround speakers at the rear. For 6.1 surround sound you will be using a rear speaker to go with the ones that are already there for a 5.1 setup. A 7.1 setup will have two surround channels at the rear that are dedicated.

While these speaker setups will be great for your surround sound setup. However, the sound channeling splits will be different based on whether you will be using DTS or Dolby surround sound. Be sure to consider this when you are going to be working on setting up your speakers. Don't forget to consider the surround sound format.

Your home theater package is going to be something that is exciting. However, you should look into your surround sound setup for best results. Remember to see what is going to be used for your sound whether it be DTS, Dolby or possibly both. Don't forget to look into the sound system that will be used. These are all valuable things to use for your system and can be great for your needs for your home theater package.
